All dogs learn at different speeds, I teach on a 1-2-1 basis which allows me to focus on the dog in front of me.
What is Scent Training?
Scent training taps into your dog's most powerful sense,their nose. This specialised form of training harnesses your dog's natural scenting abilities to search for and identify specific odours, transforming an everyday behaviour into a rewarding and structured activity.
Our science-based approach uses positive reinforcement methods, ensuring your dog learns at their own pace in a supportive environment. As they successfully locate target scents, they build confidence and self-assurance that transfers to other areas of their life.
Whether you have an energetic puppy, an older dog or even a dog in rehabilitation, scent work provides the perfect balance of mental and low impact physical stimulation. It strengthens the bond between you and your canine companion.

Did you know?
Dogs see the world through their nose, with their smell being 100,000 times stronger than our own.
Dogs noses are so sensitive, they could detect
½ teaspoon of sugar in an Olympic sized
swimming pool.
Consequently, understanding this sense can strengthen your relationship with your dog, and provides them with valuable mental enrichment - 10 minutes scent work is the equivalent to a 1 hour run!
Bronze Workshop £195
Four 1 hour workshops, taught on a 1-2-1 basis. You will learn the fascinating facts of scent work and develop the skill to teach your dog scent identification, indication and search pattern.
We will progress to combining these elements and take a closer look at the dogs body language to recognize indication within more challenging environments while searching new and novel environments.
You will receive a pocket size scent kit to allow you to practice at home, as well as information handouts.
Upon completion you will receive a certificate and rosette for your achievement and you will be eligible to compete in any UK Sniffer Dogs Bronze Trials!
Following the bronze course, there are more scent work opportunities should you wish to pursue them. These include training with other handlers, introducing new target odours, searches in more challenging environments, learning to read your dog’s body language and understanding the importance of teaching the dogs to self-regulate.
Bronze Level Trial £35
Having completed the scent training for dogs course there is the opportunity to run your dogs and compete against others in different environments. These are often well attended social events with refreshments in great locations such as country houses and pubs!
Rosettes awarded to the top three competitors and a prize for top dog and handler
I am a certified UK Sniffer Dogs instructor.
In addition, I continue to develop my knowledge and practical skills through mentorship from one of the country's most respected operational handlers, giving me valuable insight into real-world scent detection work and advanced search techniques.
This skill allows me to guide dogs and handlers through structured scent work exercises that build confidence, improve focus and tap into a dog’s incredible natural ability to use their nose.

I have completed by bronze scent class with Penny. The difference in my springer spaniels confidence and drive is remarkable. Attended a local trial organised by Penny, great venue and it showed us how far we had come and what to work on.
